carol and phil

Single from a story I worked on for the paper, just ran today.

Carol Fisher jokes with her fiancé, Phil Haddick, at their apartment during a lunch-time game of Scrabble on June 20, 2008. "I just love this hair," she said. Each day, Phil returns to the apartment for his lunch break. Both Carol Fisher, 65, and Phil Haddick, 74, thought they were well prepared for her retirement. However, poor planning, a struggling economy and soaring gas prices have changed their dreams of traveling the country in thier RV. Last October, they traded the RV for a smaller, more economical travel trailer. After a few months, they came to the conclusion that they could no longer afford the traveling lifestyle, sold their travel trailer and moved into an apartment in Fredericksburg. Phil was forced to begin working full-time and Carol now works part-time.
